The Port of Haydarpasa is located in Istanbul, Turkey, on the shores of the Sea of Marmara between the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea. Haydarpasa is a historic area containing many public buildings. The structures within the Port of Haydarpasa are famous around the world, including the Haydarpasa Terminal, the Port of Haydarpasa, and the Selimye Barracks.
The General Directorate of Turkish State Railways (TCDD) is the port authority for the Port of Haydarpasa. When the Republic of Turkey was established in 1923, its four thousand kilometers of railway tracks were nationalized and placed under the authority of the General Directorate of Anatolian-Baghdat Railways. General Directorate. In 1953, the authority was changed by law into a public economical enterprise and renamed to the General Directorate of Turkish State Railways Administration. Pilotage is required for vessels leaving and entering the Port of Haydarpasa, and the Turkish Maritime Organization provides the service 24 hours a day. While towage is not required for vessels under 2000 gross registered tons, it is also provided 24 hours a day. The Port of Haydarpasa owns three tug boats, three rail ferries, and two mooring boats as well as a floating crane with capacity for 250 tons.
The Port of Haydarpasa has a container land terminal outside the port for stacking empty containers. The stacking area covers 55 thousand square meters and has capacity for 52.8 thousand TEUs. Customs clearances and container stuffing and unstuffing operations are conducted in the terminal.
The Port of Haydarpasa also has a grain silo owned by the Turkish Grain Board. The silo has capacity for 34 thousand tons of cargo and is connected to the quay by conveyor.
The Port of Haydarpasa has a rail ferry terminal that serves ferries moving between Haydarpasa and Sirkeci. Each of the three rail ferries has capacity for 480 tons of cargo.
The main business of the Port of Haydarpasa is handling containerized cargo, but the port also handles bulk and breakbulk cargoes. The Port of Haydarpasa has 18 berths with a total length of 3130 meters.
With a total length of 945 meters, Berths 10-12 handle containers. Berth 10 is 100 meters long with maximum draft of 7 meters. Berth 11 is 250 meters long with maximum draft of 10 meters, and Berth 12 is 300 meters long with maximum draft of 11 meters.
The Port of Haydarpasa has nine berths specializing in handling general cargoes. With a total length of 1610 meters, these berths can accommodate maximum drafts from five to 9.3 meters. At 210 meters long, Berth 2 can accommodate vessels with maximum draft of from 5 to 7.5 meters. Berth 16 is 160 meters long and can handle vessels with maximum draft of 6 meters. Berths 9 and 15 are each 220 meters long and can handle vessels with maximum draft of 7 meters. Berths 4 and 5 are 334 meters long with maximum draft of 9 meters. Berth 6 is 220 meters long with maximum draft of 9.3 meters.
The Port of Haydarpasa's Berth 3 specializes in bulk grain cargoes. It is 190 meters long and can support vessels with maximum draft of from 8 to 9.5 meters.
Berths 17 and 18 are equipped to handle roll-on/roll-off cargoes at the Port of Haydarpasa. Berth 17 is 141 meters long and can handle vessels with maximum draft of 8 meters, while Berth 18 is 164 meters long and serves vessels with maximum draft of 6 meters.
The Port of Haydarpasa's Berth 1, at 80 meters long with maximum draft of 4.5 meters, is dedicated to wagon movements.
